HDMI OVER IP PROFESSIONAL BROADCASTER
*This item is a pair, one PB5000 sender and one PB5000 dip-switch type receiver*
The Aavara PB5000 system provides ultra high quality HDMI over IP video broadcasting for both AV and Digital Signage applications. It supports 1 to 1, 1 to many and multicast (multiple sources to many displays). Using a gigabit ethernet network Multicasting can be achieved without the need for an expensive managed switch, all that is required is to simply set the dip-switch on each sender to a unique channel number and set each receiver to match the required channel. The receivers come in two sorts; dip switch type (for receivers that don't need frequent changes, digital signage etc) and an IR verion for a quicker, remote controlled change.
FEATURES:
* 1080p Ultra High Quality Video transmission and Up to 16 Groups Multi-Casting
* Flexible and scalable HDMI 1080p broadcasting with Gigabit Ethernet LAN
* 1 to 1, 1 to many & multi-casting broadcasting architecture, adding more displays without adding LAN bandwidth loading
* Multi-Casting group with Gigabit Ethernet managed switch (required 802.11Q VLAN & IGMP function) support, Up to 16 multi-casting group support
* 16 sets C class IP Dip switch configuration on both Sender & Receiver for easy Multi-Casting group matching

Have a look at the instruction manual here (Acrobat pdf file)
*Note that if multiple receivers are used, the Sender will only accept IR feedback from the first Receiver to be powered up (first receiver it "handshakes" with). This is because the first powered receiver will usually be in the room you are viewing from and you would not normally want other rooms to then control what you are viewing. If you do require IR from every receiver then you can add this in the form of IR Anywhere modules (to keep it all on the IP network or a wireless solution such as the Powermid.

1 Nicholas on 13 Mar 2012 asked :
"
I see the product documentation suggests I need to use a high performance dedicated gigabit switch. Is this absolutely essential or can I get away with a budget switch used along side my other home network traffic?
Can I have two or more gigabit switches in between the sender and the receiver or will this degrade performance to an unacceptable level? "
Keene replied: Even though the documentation states use a high performance switch any switch would be suitable providing it is Gigabit rated and the cost of the unit should not matter too much but I would recommend running a Gigabit switch solely for the use of the of the PB5000 and not in conjunction with your home network traffic for the best results. If you were to use two Gigabit switchers between the sender and receiver this should be okay and not degrade the signal or performance at all .
2 Ken G on 16 Jan 2012 asked :
"Can this system pass multi channel audio, e.g. DD 5.1?
The PB900 cannot, but there is no mention of the audio capabilities of this PB5000.
Thanks."
Keene replied: Audio is the same as on the Pb900. some of the HdBaseT systems can do it web link to one below:- http://www.keene.co.uk/electronic/cyp/puma-hdmi-v1.4-over-single-cat6-hdbaset-set/PU506.html
3 John B on 17 Nov 2011 asked :
"I noticed on the HDMI catalogue you included in the PB5000 you sent me that the optimal settings for SKY HD is 720p. Why is this? I thought sky supported up to 1080i"
Keene replied: The PB500 always outputs a progressive signal so if you input 1080i it will output 1080p . On most test we have found screens tend to look better with 720p as they is no change form interlace to progressive using this format. To be honest on my Sony bravia 720 p looks better than 1080i There are many discussion on the net regarding interlace vs progressive signals generally speaking progressive is always regarded as the better signal. It would just be a case of trying it you may personally think the 1080i converted to 1080p looks better than 720p.
4 John B on 07 Nov 2011 asked :
"
Can you select the output format of each receiver - eg can you support a mix of 720p and 1080p without reducing the resolution on the 1080p receiver."
Keene replied: No you can not do this.
5 Graeme S on 26 Apr 2011 asked :
"
How would I set up the \'IR Anywhere\' modules for use use with these devices? Would I need a second CAT 5/6 connection?"
Keene replied: Yes, the IR anywhere will need their own port so use a gigabit switch with one port for the PB5000, another for the KIRA module
6 Pavel on 15 Mar 2011 asked :
"
did not quite understand difference in functionality with P900 apart wifi capability
Or there is something else?"
Keene replied: The PB5000 uses less image compression than the PB900 so will give better results on a larger (42" +) display. The trade-off is that the PB5000 requires a gigabit network whereas the PB900 will work on 100Mbps . The PB5000 also has built in support for VLAN (via dip-switch) so you can have to four senders on one network - the PB900 requires manual VLAN configuration on your router if you want to use more than one sender.
7 Jon w on 07 Feb 2011 asked :
"
1. Do these work with powerline products?
2. What Mbps is required for the hd stream at 1080p?"
Keene replied: The PB900 will work with powerline provided that there is a minimum constant data rate of 84Mbps. The PB5000 requires a cabled gigabit network
8 Clive W on 18 Dec 2010 asked :
"I am about to wire my new build.
Would this system allow TV distribution to multi rooms over CAT6? If not do you have a system that would "
Keene replied: Yes this will allow this you just need additional receivers for each room.
9 Simon L on 15 Dec 2010 asked :
"
Will these distribute 3D HD?"
Keene replied: No it is not 3D compatible at time of writing 10/03/11
10 David B on 25 Oct 2010 asked :
"
How come this gets 1080p without scaling when even the 2G Just Add Power units can't do that?"
Keene replied: It utilises compression (as does the J-A-P units) but the image is not down-scaled for this. The compression is "virtually lossless" and the end result is indistinguishable from a cable.
11 Phil on 03 Oct 2010 asked :
"
Hi, will these work on a Powerline network / Homeplugs?"
Keene replied: No, unfortunately the PB5000 requires gigabit ethernet. The PB900 will run on Homeplug (assuming the data rate is high enough) although the resolution is not as high as the PB5000.
